SAUDI LICENSING EXAM SLE OR SAUDI MEDICAL LICENSE EXAM SMLE

Saudi Licensing Exam (SLE)

‘Saudi Medical Board Exam’ is a ‘Saudi Commission for Health Specialties’ (SCHS) exam for medical speciality or general practice licensing.

This licensing exam is necessary for all doctors who want to practice medicine as a general practitioner or as a specialist in Saudi Arabia. The exams are different for different specialities and for general practice.

One can appear in this exam anywhere in the world, while for appearing in saudi arabia you need an eligibility number.

The exam is SINGLE BEST TYPE MCQs. and as the questions are repeated so it is better to take a look at past papers of SLE.

What are the useful books for study:
1. “Comprehensive Review for Saudi Licence Exam” by Dr Yahya M Al-Khladi. Recently saw this book in Jarir bookstore, Riyadh.
2. USMLE FIRST AID 3 AND OR 1
3. OXFORD HANDBOOK OF CLINICAL MEDICINE EMERGENCY CHAPTER
4. OXFORD HANDBOOK OF CLINICAL SPECIALTIES IS ALSO RECOMMENDED BUT not necessary.

What important is, that you should know what exam you are giving and what percentage of questions you will face.

  12. ASSALAMALAIKUM,
I have taken my exam this month and I passed it.The exam was average. One should have orientation towards the exam.It mostly depends on the whole MBBS course but we have to prepare or just get oriented regarding the type of questions asked. My advice is to give more time to pediatrics and psychiatry in addition to the rest.
    GOOD LUCK

I am a non saudi and have done my internship and graduation from Outside saudi arabia but am a resident here.. Can i apply for sle gp without experience kindly answer.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For giving SLE exam for general practitioner, you need to have post internship min of 2 years experience, however there is a condition in the manual of SCHS that says you can appear in exam, provided you will take one year training attachment post in any big hospital. after that you can apply for the permanent lisence.. I know few physicians who are doing training under this clause... but it depends from which country you did your secondary schooling, if you did from saudi arabia your secondary schooling and you have prrof of certificate. then you don't need any experience at all, you can apply for examination and u will get permanent lisence, not temporary. hope that gives answer to your question, if you did ur secondary from here, and want to know how to apply for, just ask me. best of luck.

    1. Hi Shaheena

It depends where u r appearing for the exam, you should choose Saudi Licensing Exam (SLE). Certification n Selection exams are for those candidates who are searching residency or have completed residency in Saudi Arabia.. Later once you arrive here, if you wish to choose your career as residency then you can think of others. Hope it helps.

but my advise for pulmonary is that, you must go through passmedicine notes for MRCP Part 1 for respiratory system. Most questions will be covered from there.

    1. Dear Sir,

For Hematology Passing Score is 60% but for consultants i think its above 75-80%

You need to work on guidelines for hematology, commonly they refer to questions common in MENA like SCD, HB-Pathies, etc, also lymphomas n leukemias are common in exam..

However SCHS does not provide specific guidelines for hematology.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. there is no difference in both exams, its just the exam center. however paper will be the same. Also u can not choose anyone from pearson vue or prometric, it will be SCHS who will give you an eligibility number which will also state that you have to book your exam either through pearson vue or through prometric..

I suggest you to practice as much as you can and study from mock exams given above.. however GP exam is quite easy and passing is only 45 %..

Best of luck for the exam.

    1. Dear Dr. Nzsh

Its an excellent question. i should write a more detailed post about it.
Well, for SLE -- Saudi Licensing exam-- was previously used unanimously for expats as well as locals. However now this terminology is now only for expats trying to appear in exam to obtain their license to practice.

SMLE or SMSE, saudi medical licensing exam or saudi medical selection exam, is a newborn terminology used to describe those locals and expats; who want to appear for selection exam to gain access to saudi board residency program. however the truth is that only few, that means 1 in 50,000 expats may get selected for specialty training for saudi board. However, you will see in few hospitals where expats are being trained under saudi board. The reason for that is, either they were enrolled since the time not enough locals were there or those physicians who worked in peripheries of Kingdom and got accepted in residency program.

Hope it clears the confusion. if any more details you want. do msg me. thanks

    1. Yes you are right, Now you can give exam in your specific field like SLE Paeds. I am not sure which level you are going for, however for Paeds exam there will be specific for Paeds.. About the books its more common sense questions and few logical questions. I heard the news they changed database. Lets see they will send quality questions. If you remember questions after your successful exam in sha Allah, do email them to me and i will post them here with your name, for the help of others.

    5. Sorry for late reply. Been busy.
To apply for emergency, following is the eligibility requirement:
 Valid registration with the SCFHS.
 Approval of the specialty local supervisory committee.
And here is the Written Examination Format:
 A written examination shall consist of one paper with 120 MCQs with a single best answer.

I hope u already have Scfhs Licence. If you don't have that in then u need to get that first before applying for residency program of saudi board in Emergency medicine.

To get scfhs Licence card u have to go through the formal process which is already described above.

Scfhs Licence has categories, u need to try to get license in Emergency medicine as Resident instead of GP. To get that u must have last exp in Emergency in order to be categorized as EM Resident license.

      Hope it helps.

    1. Thanks for your kind words. This blog is for help, thats what im trying to do.

If you have gap in experience more than 2 years then you will need 6 months training in a tertiary care hospital before able to get license as GP. Also you will need CME.
Then only you might be able to get eligibility number to appear for Exam in kingdom.

In your case you are outside kingdom, you can then apply for eligibility to SCFHS and they will issue it after completion of experience, then you can appear for exam and you will get license.

      Hope it helps.
